R A G N A R Ø K K R

a visual journey into Norse mythology

At the beginning of 2024 I was selected for an artist residency program at Kunstarnhuset Messen, Ålvik, Hordaland.

For three months I worked on a unique piece inspired by the Ragnarok in Norse mythology, a 2mt wide illustration that can be folded up as a leporello.

Ragnrøkkr is a visual journey that tries to be as anti-mainstream as possible, focusing on primitive forms and colors and developing a story in a shape that reminds of medieval tapestries.

The process started with a iconographic research that included references from archeological and artistic artifacts as well as sources that are not properly from the viking age but still connected to the Scandinavian culture. Hardanger traditional embroidery patterns and stave symbols from the XVII century's Galdrabók from Iceland are two examples of the non-viking references.

The end of the work occurred as I was closing an intense and challenging time of my life, which gives this project a deeper significance as in Norse mythology, even though the Ragnarok is a violent event, there's a deep sense of catharsis and purification in it. Only after destroying everything the world can restart with a new energy.

More about the project Ragnarøkkr will be soon available on this website.
